The Senate convened at 3:00pm.

Laphonza Butler (D-CA) was sworn in to the Senate by Vice President Kamala Harris.

The Senate completed the Rule 14 process to place H.R.5692, making supplemental appropriations for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2024, on the Legislative Calendar of Business.

Cloture Invoked, 63-32: Executive Calendar #319 James C. O’Brien to be an Assistant Secretary of State (European and Eurasian Affairs).

The Senate will convene at 10:00am on Wednesday, October 4th, 2023.

Two votes at 11:30am:

  1. Confirmation of Executive Calendar #319 James C. O’Brien to be an Assistant Secretary of State (European and Eurasian Affairs).
  2. Motion to invoke cloture on Executive Calendar #176 Brendan Abell Hurson to be United States District Judge for the District of Maryland.

Following the cloture vote on the Hurson nomination, the Senate will recess until 2:15pm to allow for the weekly party caucus lunches.

Two votes at 2:15pm (if cloture is invoked):

  1. Confirmation of Executive Calendar #176 Brendan Abell Hurson to be United States District Judge for the District of Maryland.
  2. Motion to invoke cloture on Executive Calendar #264 Susan Kim DeClercq to be United States District Judge for the Eastern District of Michigan.

At 5:30pm, if cloture is invoked, the Senate will proceed to a roll call vote on confirmation of Executive Calendar #264 Susan Kim DeClercq to be United States District Judge for the Eastern District of Michigan.

Floor Schedule

The Senate will convene at 10:00am on Thursday, April 30th. Following Leader Remarks, the Senate will be in a period of Morning Business with Senators permitted to speak therein for up to ten minutes each.

At approximately 11:30am, the Senate is expected to vote on the motion to invoke cloture on S.Res.690, an executive resolution authorizing the en bloc consideration in Executive Session of (49) certain nominations on the Executive Calendar.  If cloture is invoked on S.Res.690, all post-cloture time will be considered expired and the Senate will vote on adoption of the resolution at a time to be determined by the Majority Leader, in consultation with the Democratic Leader, no earlier than Friday, May 1st.

At approximately 1:45pm, a roll call vote on the motion to discharge S.J.Res 184, A joint resolution to direct the removal of United States Armed Forces from hostilities within or against the Islamic Republic of Iran that have not been authorized by Congress from the Senate Foreign Relations Committee (Schiff) is expected.
