The Senate will convene at 11:00am on Wednesday, January 22.

Motion to Proceed to Legislative Session, agreed to: 54-46.

Agreed to, 53-45: Motion to proceed to Executive Session for the consideration of Executive Calendar #3 Peter Hegseth to be Secretary of Defense.

At 2:30pm, the Senate will proceed to a roll call vote on the motion to invoke cloture on the motion to proceed to Cal. #4, S.6, Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act.

On Tuesday, January 21, Leader Thune filed cloture on the following nominations:

  1. Executive Calendar #1 John Ratcliffe to be Director of the Central Intelligence Agency.
  2. Executive Session for the consideration of Executive Calendar #3 Peter Hegseth to be Secretary of Defense.
  3. Executive Calendar #4 Kristi Noem to be Secretary of Homeland Security.

The Senate stands in recess until Monday, April 13, 2026, other than for pro forma sessions only, with no business conducted, on the following dates and times:

When the Senate next convenes at 3:00pm on Monday, April 13th, following Leader remarks, it will proceed to Executive Session and resume consideration of the nomination of John Thomas Shepherd to be United States District Judge for the Western District of Arkansas.

5:30pm Monday, April 13th the Senate is expected to proceed to a roll call vote on the motion to invoke cloture on the Shepherd nomination.

Cloture was filed on the following nominations:

  1. The nomination of John Thomas Shepherd to be United States District Judge for the Western District of Arkansas.
  2. The nomination of Christopher R. Wolfe to be United States District Judge for the Western District of Texas.
